Privacy policy

Last updated

Outpace is committed to protecting the privacy of the people it deals with. This policy sets out how personal information is collected, used, held and disclosed through this website, and how you can access or correct it.

Outpace handles personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles. This policy is updated from time to time. The date at the top is the date of the current version.

What this website collects

Personal information is information or an opinion about an identified, or reasonably identifiable, individual. This website collects personal information in two ways.

  • Information you give us. When you send an enquiry through the contact form you provide your name, email address, organisation, your role if you choose to give it, how you heard of Outpace if you choose to tell us, which enquiry pathway you chose, and the content of your message.
  • Information collected automatically. When you visit, the hosting platform records standard server logs, which include your IP address, the pages you requested, the time of the request and the browser you used. The contact form uses your connection's address to limit how many enquiries can be sent in a short period.

This website does not set cookies, does not use advertising or tracking pixels, and does not fingerprint browsers. If analytics are added later, this policy will be updated first.

Outpace may also collect personal information about you from an organisation you represent, where that is necessary to deal with that organisation, or from publicly available sources such as professional networking sites, where it is unreasonable or impracticable to collect it from you directly.

How it is used

Outpace uses personal information collected through this website to:

  • respond to your enquiry and send you an acknowledgement that it was received;
  • continue a conversation you have started with Outpace about a project, a partnership, capital or AI capacity;
  • keep a record of enquiries and relationships, including their status, as part of running the business;
  • operate, secure and improve the website, including detecting and stopping automated abuse;
  • comply with legal obligations and respond to lawful requests from regulators or courts.

Outpace does not use the information you provide for purposes unrelated to these without telling you first, and it does not sell personal information.

Direct marketing

Outpace may contact you about its thesis, projects and events where you have asked for that or would reasonably expect it from the relationship you have with Outpace. Every such message tells you how to stop receiving them, and you can ask at any time through the contact form.

Who it is disclosed to

Outpace discloses personal information to service providers that help it run this website and respond to enquiries. At the date of this policy those are:

  • the hosting platform, which serves the website and holds its server logs;
  • the email delivery service, which sends your enquiry to Outpace and sends the acknowledgement to you;
  • professional advisers, where necessary for Outpace to obtain advice or meet its obligations.

Outpace may also disclose personal information where required by law, or in connection with a sale or restructure of the business, in which case the recipient is bound by this policy.

Overseas disclosure

The hosting platform and the email delivery service store and process data in the United States and in other regions where they operate. By using this website or the contact form, you acknowledge that your information may be stored and processed outside Australia. Outpace chooses providers that commit to recognised security standards and takes reasonable steps to ensure they handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Security

This website is served over an encrypted connection. Enquiries are transmitted encrypted to the email delivery service and to Outpace. Outpace holds enquiries in systems that require authentication and that are accessible only to the people who need them. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, and Outpace cannot guarantee the security of information you send electronically. The Security page describes the website's controls in more detail.

Retention

Outpace keeps personal information for as long as it is needed for the purpose it was collected, to meet legal obligations, or to maintain a record of a business relationship. Server logs are retained by the hosting platform for its standard period. When information is no longer needed, Outpace takes reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it.

Third-party websites

This website links to third-party websites, including the sources of published figures. Those sites have their own privacy policies and Outpace is not responsible for them.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask to access or correct the personal information Outpace holds about you, or ask a question or make a complaint about how it has been handled, through the contact form, choosing the general enquiries pathway. Outpace may ask you to verify your identity before releasing information.

Outpace aims to respond within 30 days. Complaints are taken seriously, handled confidentially and investigated. If you are not satisfied with the outcome, you may refer your complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner.

Age

This website is intended for people who have reached 18 years of age. Outpace does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18.
